The Doctor is Alive and Well in Northampton!

The image I've posted here is the very first (haphazardly drawn and photocopied) poster ever made for Dr. Sketchy's Northampton. I remember sketching it up, nervous and excited about this new venture I was embarking on. Not knowing what form it would take, how the community would take to this cheeky event, never having run an event or project before. I post it here now because, more than two years later, Dr. Sketchy's continues to run a new and inventive show for artists and doodlers alike every month, still on first Fridays, still at the Elevens on Pleasant St. Many things have changed over this time, least of which being that I (Caity) moved from Northampton back to Boston last November, leaving the position of director in the capable hands of my then-assistant, Kyle Gintzler. Since then Kyle has run numerous unique, fun events and I'm proud that Dr. Sketchy's continues to be alive and well in the valley. I let this blog fall to the wayside a year ago when I sensed that our Facebook page was the only way our audience was really reaching us. But that's about to change, and Sketchy's Northampton is is getting it's own makeover. In the coming months we'll be posting pictures from all the amazing events from the past year, and keeping both the blog and the hub site (drsketchy.com) more updated. The creative haven of western ma has embraced Dr. Sketchy's and kept us alive, and we're dedicated to throwing even more exciting and saucy parties every month. With the help of our friends and fans, we can outdo ourselves each and every time, and give the audience a truly wild experience of art, burlesque, and music for years to come. Stay tuned, y'all.

It's My Party and I'll Draw If I Want To!

To celebrate one year in Northampton, our branch threw a big ol' birthday fete complete with party games and a (burlesque-dancing!) clown. Local partystarter DJ Dan cashman spun great tunes all night, and contest winners tore open their presents to find great prizes from topatoco.com, F.O.E., and Oh My! Sensuality Shop. And, for the 2nd time, the folks at canson blew our minds by bringing FREE (high-quality, all different types) sketchbooks for EVERYONE in attendance! Nuts. We even had a real birthday in the house, fete'd with cake and singing. Our amazing models posed their asses off - the voluptuous Gaby as the spoiled birthday princess, and newcomer Harley Foxx as her birthday clown, who also brought down the house with her unbelievable burlesque performance. We even kicked off the show with a game of Twister. 'Nuff said.
This is just a taste of more than 100 beautiful photos from the night, taken by the venerable Lesley Arak Photography. check out all of the photos, as well as more fun stuff, on our facebook page, or at drsketchy.com.

Dr. Sketchy’s Noho threw blew up the nuclear 50’s family!

Last night we went back in time to the 50’s and spied on the secret drama of a straight-laced couple and their sketchy alter-egos. Our handsome and hilarious models were a real-life husband and wife, and they brought it out with some daring poses! Our eclectic soundtrack included plenty of 50’s classics, a surprising and disturbing track from The Shining, and a bunch of bizarre authentic radio ads, including one from Ex-Lax that had the audience busting a gut laughing. Prizes came from our sponsors topatoco.com, Oh My! Sensuality Shop, and our newest comrades, FOE. Plenty of drinking and debauchery was had, and some really excellent sketches came out of the night.

Select photos of the event are up now in our album, but check out our facebook page for over 150 titillating pics from our talented in-house photog, Lesley Arak!

We had a blast this month, and hope to see everyone back at the Elevens on Friday, May 6th for a headbanging (hint-hint) new theme!

(p.s. - no apologies for the abundance of nuclear puns!

Dr. Sketchy Threw a Pajama Party!

The snowstorm could couldn't keep these local artsies from a good party - Friday, Jan 7th Dr. Sketchy's Northampton threw a PJ party with models, cookies, contests, and live music from Sylphid, and it was a huge success. People showed up in their pajamas, footies, boxers and snuggies to draw our gorgeous models and enjoy the sleepytime electronica. Here are photos from the event, showcasing the talents of our girls (daring poses!) our sexy band, and the amazing artists in attendance. Winners from our tattoo contest and cuddly wilderness animal contest recieved prizes from Baby Tattoo books and topatoco.com. Can't wait for February's event!

Dr. Sketchy's Northampton Cracked the Nut!

December's session featured a saucy toy soldier and snowflake ballerina modeling their little hearts out to the sounds of totally decent christmas punk and indie songs and the scratching of pencil to paper. Our tattoo yourself or someone else (making friends!) contest was particularly hilarious, and contest winners were treated to awesome goodies from our sponsors: the artists at Lucky's Tattoo and Piercing - who donated a $50 gift certificate, topatoco.com - who donated a sweet Bake'n'Bake apron and a hilarious book of comics by Kate Beaton, Oh My! Sensuality Shop - donating their signature classy and not-so-classy adult toys, and mymonsterhat.com - with some adorable handmade finger puppets and a snowmonster hat. And, thanks also to Chameleons Salon, who did our ballerina's hair up in a blizzard of sparkles, feathers, snowflakes, and other craziness. Thanks to everyone who came, and as always, my wonderful art monkeys for their help!
